The Socially Assistive Robotics Laboratory (SARL) is located within the Chiba New Town Campus at Tokyo Denki University, Japan.

Our current research is focused on using a robot's inability to complete a task that it ostensibly desires to accomplish to motivate people in the surrounding environment to observe decorum. We are developing a variety of persuasive social robots that aim to evoke interpersonal coordination among humans.

These prototypes will play a significant role in society, because of their ability to remind people of social etiquette without the use of words. Furthermore, they can be used as social mediators, to promote mutuality and social bonding for participants in human-human communication.
